Who or What is The Friday Flakker?

The Friday Flakker, affectionately called "The Flakker" by those who like shorter names, is the result of a puerile need on my part to share my thoughts with people whether they want them or not.

Like many office workers I found that there were too many interruptions and distractions in the office, such as water coolers and lunch rooms. In an effort to get some of that pestilent paperwork done I started working from home on Fridays. In our environment, if you were working from somewhere other than the office it was considered polite to send a “I'm not in the office” note telling co-workers where you were and how to contact you. Not being content to send the usual “I'm at home you can phone me at 151-555-5678” I figured it would be more entertaining for the recipients if I were to add a thought of the day. Being an unnecessarily wordy kind of guy, these soon became weekly diatribes instead of short notes.

Strangely, my office was populated by an unusually large number of very polite people who insisted on inflating my ego by saying they actually enjoyed my weekly blurb and the next thing you know the Friday Flakker had grown into whatever it is today.
